io voglio comprare!

Italian police reportedly have a suspect in the vandalizing of Brunello di Montalcino producer Gianfranco Soldera, which resulted in the loss of nearly all of his production 2007-2012.Gianfranco may not be the most popular man in his village stemming from the Brunello scandal of 2008, when a number of top producers were investigated for blending their wines with illegal grape varieties.

Soldera

Soldera was thought to be the whistleblower on what ended up being a big economic loss for the producers accused. But as it turns out the vandal was actually a former employee seeking revenge for some God only knows reason. There is no doubt as to the quality of Italian wines, and how well certain wines mature in a wine cellar. We feel both Soldera, Gaja, and a handful of select Italian producers should be a strong presence in every wine cellar portfolio.

Gaja

It would seem to me that the best time to buy these producers is right now. Just a couple of days ago Angelo Gaja sounded what seemed to be alarm bells that there is a shortage of Italian wines coming. "Years of low production because of unfavorable climatic conditions", writes Gaja in an open letter to Wine Searcher, dated January 10. Italian winery cellars could be empty as early as June, Gaja warns.

Italian Wine Regions

Soldera should see a strong increase in both price appreciation, press, and status once the 2006 reviews come in (which will be great). Indigenous grapes + rare microclimates + artisanal craftsmanship = wine masterpieces. So whether your looking for a great Italian "foodie" wine such as Bodega Chacra's Trienta y Dos or a Brunello masterpiece from Soldera io voglio comprare!!
