The Garage

A detached garage in Connecticut, rebuilt as an 8,000-bottle cellar for a collector already 7,500 deep. Natural black walnut racking - eight weeks in the build - holds bottles horizontally, cork forward, in bin style, with dedicated storage from 750ml through 3-liter and champagne. Two rolling library ladders work the full room beneath 10-foot ceilings, over an oversized Montauk black slate floor. Because the building stands alone, the climate work is doubled: two cooling systems plus a humidifier and a heater for winters that drop below 55. A tasting and decanting station anchors the room, which went on to a Wine Spectator feature.
